5 Home Remedies for Ear Pain

Ear pain can be disturbing and stinging at the same time. There might be certain disorders like cavities, sinus infections, earwax and tonsillitis that have the ability to cause ear pain. People often suffer from the middle ear infection that has severe symptoms like swollen or inflamed ear as a result of the trap of the fluid behind the eardrum. Ear pain often co-exists with symptoms like fever, slight loss of hearing or flu. Ear pain is mostly noticed among children.

Here are some home remedies for ear pain that can be tried safely.

1. Garlic

According to Ayurveda, a simple solution to deal with ear pain is by using Garlic. Crush two cloves of garlic and mix it with 2 teaspoons of mustard oil. Heat this mixture till the garlic turns slightly black. Allow it to cool down and then apply few drops inside the infected ear. The analgesic properties of garlic help in relieving pain. Garlic oil can be prepared at home by crushing and boiling the cloves into sesame oil. This tends to give instant relief.

2. Basil Leaves

Basil is regarded as one of the prime medicines in Ayurveda since time immemorial. It acts as an effective medicine for minor ear infections and pain. You can crush basil leaves and prepare a juice out of it to treat your infected ear. It should be applied on a regular basis to avoid earaches.

3. Mustard Oil

Sometimes pain in your ears might occur due to the over-accumulation of wax within your ears. The mustard oil has demulcent properties that melt the wax within your ears. After applying 2-3 drops in one ear, you need to turn on the other side. You need to maintain this posture for some time and then repeat the same with the other ear. Mustard oil brings the wax outside ears and causes relief to your ear pain.

4. Apple Cider Vinegar

This antibacterial and antifungal solution regulates the pH of the ear canal and does not support the survival and sustenance of the harmful bacteria and microbes. After warming some vinegar, you need to apply the mixture on the infected ear with a cotton bud and wait for some time for the solution to penetrate in the ears. The mixture can also be diluted with a bit with water and the cotton bud shall be soaked in this liquid. Insert the bud within the ear and let it remain in that position for about 5 minutes.

5. Salt

Salt has the property of taking out fluid from your infected ears and stop swelling. Heat some amount of salt on a low flame and then immerse a cotton ball within the solution to cover it with warm salt. You need to put the cotton ball coated with warm salt in your ears for some minutes. Sea salt plays a key role in reducing inflammation and pain within your ear canal. Follow this practice if you are only advised by your doctor.
