A straightforward way to get rid of sciatica is by practising yoga or ‘asanas’ on a regular basis. Yoga serves as an excellent treatment for sciatic pain relief. If you are suffering from sciatica, consider using a combination of yoga and pain-reducing medication to subside the recurrence and severity of the pain.
The Dandasana or the Staff Pose is a natural pose that flexes the lower back and gives the legs a perfect stretch. This seated pose promotes healthy circulation of blood, especially in the affected regions, and releases the amassed pressure in the sciatic area, providing it with enough space to relax.
The sciatic pain often arises due to the application of force by buttock muscles on the sciatic nerve while pushing them against the below-placed tendons. Soon, you will start experiencing a stinging pain in your legs. This pose does a great job in relieving the pain because it stretches the muscles that put pressure on the nerves, thereby releasing the accumulated tension.
3. Ardha Matsyendrasana
The Ardha Matsyendrasana improves the curves in your body. This curve relaxes the hips and buttock region and also flexes the area. Simultaneously, blood circulation is improved, and pain is reduced.
The Locust Pose adds strength to the lower back and circulates blood in the lower hip area. This helps in the reducing the sciatic pain because, with adequate circulation in that area, built-up pressure starts easing out.
5. Setu Bandhasana
This useful yoga pose relieves sciatica nerve pain. It mildly stretches the buttock area and the major muscles present in the same region. This enhances flexibility and encourages movement in sciatica-affected regions that are mostly inactive and cramped. This pose also improves blood circulation.
6. Supta Padangusthasana
This ‘instantly relieving’ asana or yoga induces a basic hamstring stretch. The stretch opens up the buttocks and thus plays a crucial role in reducing the pain. Since it stretches the calves and legs, it also promotes circulation below the torso.
7. Salamba Sarvangasana
This reverse yoga pose supports uninterrupted blood flow and relaxes the muscles in the rear area. This asana is incredibly effective in healing sciatica because it promotes an adequate flow of blood and oxygen into the sciatic region.
This basic, but powerful pose resembles a Cobra. It stretches your lower back and spine and soothes the pain caused by a slipped disc, which is one of the major causes of sciatica.
